Fantastic February 4, 2009 G. Musser (Cornwall, UK) 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
I'd like to turn the tables after seeing some poor reviews here.
This device is EVERYTHING I could want! With 32GB flash-based players priced really high, this was the best option for someone like me who has a large music collection. When you add the capability of surfing the web and video playback on a big 800 pixel-wide screen, it plain to see you're getting more than an MP3 player here.
Web phones like the G1 and iPhone are great, but this has full flash/java support and displays at the native resolution of most sites... meaning you only need to scroll vertically on most sites.
I have had the Archos for a week. No dead pixels, long battery life and none of the problems others have talked about.
For me, the dream of an iphone/iPod touch beater is here. No lock-in with iTunes, complete openness, this is a player you will show off to friends about again and again.

Just got my Archos 60GB and its brill you don't need a big manual its so easy to set up and use. I was a bit worried after reading some reviews, so far no problems. Only down side is the tinny speaker (headphones are great) and you need a stylus to surf around quickly.Finds all Wi Fi quickly,TV & dvd looks great i used the highest bit rate setting so i will fill the hard drive up quicker but after watching progs you can delete. Have used the net and read my email away from home some wifi connections need user id & passwords but thats not the fault of the Archos. So at the moment it is a great buy.

Great product. Don't usually post reviews but just wanted to say that I've had no issues with the device whatsover - mines perfect. Great for armchair wifi surfing, internet radio, and youtube movies. It's also got a really nice song player which synchronises easily via Windows Media Player. It also easily synchronises all your photo's and movies. The screen is really good - very bright and crystal clear. It does finger print far too easily and because of this and for typing on forums, search engines etc I tend to use a stylus. I've now ordered the DVR dock and can't wait to try streaming from my pc to the TV and recording programms for watching whilst travelling etc etc.
The best PMP on the market June 21, 2009 Alastair Gourley (Bath, UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The archos 5 is brilliant, put simply! Huge capacity, brilliant screen, and the best processor ever put on a pmp. Archos have taken everything that worked from the previous model (605) which i also had the pleasure to own, and improved it. The main downfall of the 605 was the looks and interface, which have been completely revamped for this model, to produce a device that gives the looks of anything produced by apple a run their money. Granted the interface is not quite as slick as the touches, but the archos more that compensates with the vast list of features it sports. You do have to pay extra for these, but you won't want everything, and if you are willing to dish out a few bob extra you can record tv straight on to the device. The choice used to be a tricky one between the touch and the 605, but this new product blows the touch out of the water in pretty much all areas! Easily the best Portable Media Player money can buy :)
A year of usage and still feels exciting August 16, 2010 The Messenger (England) I have had Archos 5 for nearly a year now. I haven't had any problems with it. The screen is large and resolution very good. The memory is so much better than any other competitive product on the market; I have the 240GB version. The battery could perhaps be better, it only lasts me for a movie or two, but much longer if used for audio. It does freeze sometimes, nothing that a quick reset won't solve and very rare. I am very happy with my Archos.
