I bought this DVD player with a bit of a heavy heart. I have an excellent portable player already, it does everything I want and was well worth its hefty price tag. I don't like packing it in a suitase for holidays due to the likely damage. I looked online for a budget DVD player that would be good for a holiday and that I would be happy to risk taking in luggage.

Why the heavy heart...? ...because at this price I knew there would be compromises, I expected them. You do get what you pay for in this world and as this was inexpensive and unbranded ( well a brand I had never heard of!) I didn't have the highest of expections. I bought it with the view I would give it a go, and if it really wasn't any good it could go back. The only glimmer of confidence I had was I have bought well from this company before and respect their quality.

There ARE compromises of course...but they are not where I expected. The sound quality is really very good, with 2 decent sized speakers with really very decent quality sound. The top level volume is acceptably high. The screen is good quality and clear and very good colour and picture. The build quality while basic is reasonable and I'm happy with it. All the compromises I feared are not there and for a budget DVD player with good screen, picture, sound and build quality I'm really very satisfied and it scores well on all the compromises I feared.


So what are the compromises? It's french and has a factory fitted french 2 pin plug ( supplied with a UK adaptor), the set up is all in french - the manual easily describes how to change the language to English which was very easy. The nice little remote control has a mute button but no volume control ( common but very silly in a remote control)The volume control is situated on the side of the unit. It isn't all that stylish - its a bit lumpy looking with the battery attached. I would have liked to have known before purchase it was foreign plug fitted ...however, I may not have bought it then fearing poor quality and actually the plug is its biggest compromise and I'm not unhappy with that, its fine by me really. A good price for a basic unit and suprisingly good in all the important areas. Its not going back...it does precisely what I bought it to do and at a very reasonable price. All in all I'm happy.
