This is perfect for the handbag. I wanted something to keep with me when I carry my kindle - just for emergency charging on holiday etc. I would have preferred this to be in white (so that it matched all the other cables with the kindle) but still happy with the item as it works pefectly. I would recommend this to anyone.

This is cable is compact and retracts easily. Convenient and good value for money.
The company sent the wrong product by accident, but quickly dispatched the correct one after being contacted.

I've got a latest generation Kindle DX - this is only advertised to work with the Kindle 2. I thought I'd try it anyway as it's so neat. Judging from the other comments it works fine with the Kindle 2. It's a great little gadget, I wish it worked for me.
The DX needs more power than this delivers. Neither my mac nor my vista laptop recognised the device with this plugged in.
If you don't have enough power through the usb cable you won't even see the device, and it won't therefore be able to load its own drivers.
Amazon helpdesk also said better to use a rear-usb port rather than the front usb ports that can be lower powered.
